Those are the words that started our family owned business back in 1975.
Four generations later we blend that work ethic and know-how with today’s modern technology, and the results are the finest blades in the meat packing industry.
Our founder, Gerald, was a retired iron worker looking for something to do. He started sharpening handsaws and eventually grew into sharpening about anything else that you could put an edge on…. steel circular blades, router bits, jointer knives, planer knives, carbide tipped blades, and more.
IN 1994 WE RENAMED OUR BUSINESS, ERSCHEN SAW & TOOL.
As our business evolved to meet the needs of our customers and new industries arose, we decided to focus on specific types of blades. We determined that we would pursue sharpening blades for the pork industry. We contacted several pork plants, some with production of up to 16,000+ head per day. We offered for them to test backsaw blades that we supplied and sharpened. This proved so successful that in 1999 we sold the general sharpening part of the business.
Today, we aim to be a leader in blade production and maintenance in the pork industry. We currently sharpen blades such as circular knives, macerator blades, backsaw blades, brisket blades, scribe blades, jowl blades, cutoff blades and more. We also retail and stock a wide variety of blades.

TESTING
Our test equipment quickly identifies any area needing improvement, such as:
- Blade runout
- Hook angle of teeth
- Primary top clearance
- Teeth offset
We can then advise you on how to improve your system, if needed.
PERFORMANCE
Over years of experience, we have found that various factors affect blade performance:
- If a blade is out of round, the result is that not all of the teeth are doing their job
- Proper angles help blades to cut quicker and last much longer
- If a blade lacks offset, it will drag through the cut. Minimal offset enhances performance
ANALYSIS
After our analysis, we will provide a proposal outlining our findings and recommendations for enhancing production. By having your saw blades professionally sharpened you can expect:
